than what some call the basics, or “3 R’s”: reading, writing, and “’rithmetic.”  Even though the 3R’s are a

vital and essential set of skills that every child needs, in a rapidly changing world, excellence, resilience and

success demand much more than just the 3R’s.  We can no longer close our eyes to what is happening to our

children in society and assume that the 3R’s alone will provide a strong enough footing to support their ability

to deal with the rapidly accelerating future. Although the 3R’s are essential, and remain a core set of building

blocks for competence, there are several other integral qualities needed, and preschool is the perfect time to

begin developing these skills.
